Finding Good Furnace Repair in New York
It never fails: When forecasters are calling for the worst cold snap of the season, your gas furnace decides it can't take the heat. But what if those heating problems occur in the middle of the night, and you can't find someone to repair it quickly?
Staying Warm While Waiting for Furnace Repair
Preventing heat loss for the people in your household is of utmost concern during the coldest days and nights. The New York City Office of Emergency Management offers tips for those who find themselves in the midst of heating problems.
- If you live in an apartment, report the issue immediately. If you live in a private home, call a repair service as soon as you detect the problem. The sooner you get the word out, the faster your furnace repair can start.
- Dress in warm layers. Break out the hats, scarves, and gloves. Wear two pair of socks (or more!) and wrap up in coats and blankets if necessary.
- Remember to eat and drink. Food means energy for your body to burn, and that keeps you warmer. Drinking plenty of fluids will keep you from becoming dehydrated.
- Insulate a room in your home. Hang blankets over the doors and windows to keep as much heat in as possible. Staying in the room that has another source of heat, such as a fireplace, is a good idea.
- Open your faucets to a steady drip. The constant flow of the water through the pipes can help avoid freezing.
Heating problems in the New York winter can be a serious issue. Don't let heat loss lead to safety issues for you or your family--if the heat is off for a while, leave the house and find a warm place to stay.

Home Heating Systems
It usually isn’t until we receive our energy bill that we remember how our home
is heated. Heat is often taken for granted because for the most part our heating
systems are controlled by a simple turn of the thermostat and magically we have
heat! In recent times, homeowners are becoming more conscious of how much heat
is used because energy costs are taking a bigger bite out of our household
budgets.
